Dukus - Costume Design
This somewhat forgotten Yiddish play tells the Christ-like story of the conversion of a Catholic duke to Judaism and his subsequent martyrdom. Reimagined by Joshua William Gelb as a hedonistic romp and post-modern tribute to the trappings of Catholicism, goy-ness, and Yiddish culture. The production explored sterotype to the extreme, costuming the Duke's father as a sex-obsessed Saint Nick, a chorus of be-strap-on-ed rabbis, and eventually the Duke in his loincloth, burning on the Cross. The production was unfortunately cut short of performances due to the arrival of Hurricane Sandy in the New York area.
